Ray is the wife of Charles Beams, a previous Special Operations Force (SOF) unit leader. However, after a phenomenon known as "The Seven Swells" she was left unable to bear children, and she and Charles left the SOF shortly after.
They have been perfectly content with being freelance LFO pilots, transporting goods and people, as well as fighting off the occasional thieves and raiders. However, recently, they were approached by Dewey Novak and given an assignment to retrieve Eureka and the Nirvash from the Gekkostate.
[Personality]
Ray was born to be a mother. Or, at least, she thinks so. She's nurturing, organized, spotless, and a wonderful cook. What more could a child possibly want in a mother?
Unfortunately for Ray, an incident left her unable to bear children, and it has been weighing on her ever since. She places the blame on a certain Eureka, who - at least to her - was responsible for the phenomenon that caused her situation. This doesn't stop her from wishing for a child, and finding a child to call her own has become a sort of fixation. But, for now, she'll settle with being a good, loving wife and partner to Charles. She is content with their lives as freelance LFO pilots, as it allows her and her husband a great deal of freedom. Despite having worked in the military, they are both free-spirited, carefree people who love attending the occasional rave. Despite having served in the military, Ray is gentle by nature (however, as seen later in the Anime, if her loved ones are in danger, she is capable of great destruction.)
Ray keeps the Swan immaculately clean, and her attention to details also extends to her fighting abilities. While it was never quite clear in the Anime what exactly she did during her time in the military, one thing is certain: intelligence work was definitely one of her strong suits. She can crack codes and hack systems, as seen later in the Anime when she and Charles invade the Gekkostate. She is also an excellent pilot and navigator and despite living in an age of high-tech mecha, the woman also knows how to fire an old fashioned gun.
However, perhaps strong emotions and battlefields do not always mix, and Ray is definitely a woman of very strong emotions. While she shows the keen determination of a soldier - detonating a bomb on her husband's dead body so she could escape, planning a kamikaze attack on the Gekkostate, and maneuvering herself undetected through the Gekkostate - she also allows her emotions to cloud her judgment at times. Ray did not hide her distraught when Renton leaves the Swan to rejoin the Gekkostate, and she is so upset by her husband's death that she trashes the usually immaculate Swan; she even goes as far as to kamikaze attack the Gekkostate, in the hopes that she, Charles, and Renton could be together forever in the afterlife. It is also only due to her strong bond toward Renton and her deep hatred toward Eureka that she was caught off-guard for only a moment, allowing her to be captured on the Gekkostate.
