SYTYCD Season 4: Top 10!

Jul 16, 2008 21:49

OMG, Drama and Spoilers ahoy!

OK, I admit, I heard there were spoilers, and I went and read some, so I am spoiled...

So, no Jessica! But, um, that's really not how I wanted that to go. Sigh.

VERY VERY excited for Lil' C to be a judge! WHOOT!!! Of course, notice that it's only after the judges have no vote.

Courtney and Joshua: HipHop (Skippin'/Mario) Ooh, I liked this choreography! Fun! Much better than most of the TabbyNap stuff that I don't like (occasionally I love one of their numbers, but not often). I loved Joshua. Courtney--I hated her hair, somehow her costume made her look really short? I don't think it was just not being with Gev!! But yeah, they worked it pretty well. There were a couple points better than others (um, Joshua points), but yeah.

Chelsie solo: Pon de Replay/Rihanna: Why do ballroomy stuff barefoot? I don't really get that. I think she maybe needs to go back over some past seasons of the show and review (male and female) the ballroom people and see what worked for their solos and what didn't.

OOH! A TWO STEP??? Have they ever had a two step before? I'm ...nervous. I fear they will make it look as awful as they made the West Coast Swing look. Eep.

Mark and Kherington: TwoStep (Kick Back/Ty England) They have her wearing heels for twostep? That's weird. Huh, no, just in the rehearsal sequence. In the actual number, she's wearing regular boots (which have a bit of a heel on them, but it's solid, not the same at all as what she's wearing in rehearsal, it's a whole different feel, boots). OK, so this is the first time I really feel like, on watching a number, qualified to say "I could dance that" (OK, parts of that. I'd get pretty dizzy!). Other than the lifts. (Definitely NOT those lifts though). Huh. Her costume is heinous. And now I have to rewatch that. I'm fascinated. Hmm. On rewatch: It was all turns. There was no actual two stepping in there. At all. And....I'm not really impressed. It was cute and entertaining, but...I'm not impressed. They didn't really hit it. OOOH! Go Lil' C, critiquing country! LOVE HIM!

Gev solo: (Hello/Goodbye/Lupe Fiasco) Ooh, I like the split freeze and move within it bit. But I feel like overall, the solo could use some polish. He has some great moves, but it's hard--his style is something that I think is better in a fairly small space, not running all over in 30 seconds, but I think if he doesn't, the judges critique him for that.

Comfort and Twitch: Smooth Waltz (Open Arms/Journey) Oh for crying out loud--we finally get to see the two of them together and they have to do the smooth waltz??? It seemed at times like Twitch was taking lots of etra steps. But whoah, teh lifting her up above his head was awesome. Overall, though...it wasn't as smooth as a smooth waltz seemed like it should be by its title. I wish I could've seen the two of them do something else. Sigh. I like that Lil' C is giving good criticism. Go him.

Courtney solo (I Want You To Need Me/Celine Dion) I have to give her big minus points for using Celine. Big. Big minus points. Other than that, I kinda like her solo.

Katee and Will: Broadway (Sit Down You're Rockin' The Boat/Guys and Dolls) Tasty Oreo! Guys and Dolls! Whee! Um, an actual boat? And much as I loved loved loved the Godspell choreography...I'm...a little bored by this. It's dumb. I LOVE this song, and this horeo? Is not rocking my boat. Even with gratuitous Will shirtlessness. BOO, Tasty. Boo. Good song, good dancers, and...you wasted them! Even if Lil' C did think it was buck.

Mark solo (Bohemian Rhapsody/Queen): Is it kinda weird to do his solo to what he did in Vegas? What will he do next week? He did at least look like he was having fun.

Chelsie and Gev: Contemporary (These Arms of Mine/Otis Redding) How tall IS Gev--Didn't Chelsie say she's only like, 5'2! So unless she's wearing some wicked heels...Ooh, he's taken ballet for five years? Interesting. I really like this! Definitely better than Sonja's last one. I like how it goes with the music, but I also like how the two of them danced it. Neat!

Comfort's solo: (Need A Boss/Shareefa) I think this might've been the best solo she's done. But enough to keep her on? Probably not.

Twitch solo: (I Question Mark/Wade Robson) Like, Wade who used to choreograph? WTF? Twitch is awesome to watch, though. Hee! Save the universe, one dance floor at a time!

Courtney and Joshua: Rhumba (Hero/Enrique iglesias) Ooh, the dance of love. Does this mean we get to see Joshua's ass again? Yes, yes we do!! Whoah. The fast dip is kinda scary. Yum. I think I like this dance. Teh Sexxay. Well, maybe not when her dress gets caught on his head. But the rest of it? Hells yeah. And Lil' C continues with the AWESOME USEFUL criticism! Can we get him as a judge ALL THE TIME?!?

Katee solo: (This Woman's Work/Maxwell) Interesting to see, just cause we hadn't yet. It was fine, but I always think it's hard to tell, with the decent contemporary people, if it's good vs really good?

Kherington and Mark: Jazz (Canned Heat/Jamiroquai) Style instead of story? But I like story! Don't make me hate you, Tasty. Hmm. I do like this song though. But more barefoot Kherington. And OMG, could Mark LOOK any more gay? Eh. I like some of it, but the parts I don't really like are mostly choreography. Though I feel like they could've had a little more energy, too. I feel like this song has been overused in movies? Also, Mary has a good point--with no character, Mark was a little lost.

Will solo (Dance With My Father/Luther Vandross) I was about to say "of course his shirt is open", but no, there's a shirt under that. OMG, that lep was so HIGH. Will is just beautiful. That solo wasn't super for what he can do, but it was super nonetheless.

Comfort and Twitch: Hiphop (Forever/Chris Brown) WHEW. Please let this be awesome. That was too short! But damn, how come she couldn't have been dancing this earlier, instead of trying to krump with Tall White Boy? Ah. At least Mary admits she does not sound right saying "buck".

Kherington solo: (Breakin' Dishes/Rihanna) I'm not loving this solo, because she's trying to be too personality in it and not dancey enough. Which works for some people, but I feel like it's not working here yet.

Will and Katee: Pas de Deux (Imagine/David Archuleta) Ooh, two boy choreographers? balletic? yeah, I feel like this is rigged, that they wouldn't make anyone but Will and Katee do this (and would this choreographer DO this for anyone but Will?). And YET AGAIN, Will shirtless! Talk about rigged! OK, a bit of an awkward moment at the beginning there in a pretzely bit. I continue to get annoyed by some of the camera work, especially in a piece like this. If I can only see one of the pair in a PAS DE DEUX! Luckily that was only for a second. This was a nice piece though, and other than the bobble at the beginning, they seemed to do really well. Certainly better than I can see the other pairs doing, I think.

Joshua solo (Jam/Michael Jackson) goodness, I'd forgotten what Joshua's style WAS! He's fun.

Chelsie and Gev: Jive (The House is Rockin'/Brian Setzer) it looked like he dropped her near the beginning. And I can't help but see a skinny dark haired boy and compare him to Benji, and he comes up lacking. Poor thing. He looked like he's trying, but it just...didn't look right. And as Lil' C said...she outstepped him.

So, MY bottom two? Gev (I'm hoping not Mark or Twitch!) and...well, Kherington because I hate her, but Comfort is more likely, clearly.

I have no idea who will be kicked off, really. Especially the boys. Because I honestly don't know how America will vote. I know how *I* would vote, but...I know I'm not always well represented. I'll be interested to see. I would very much like to have tonight's third judge back some time. Preferably in future seasons BEFORE the top ten, when it might make a difference, while the judges are choosing.
