SYTYCD: Top 18

Jun 18, 2009 22:24

I has an drummertobeat and sowilo to watch with! Yay!

I didn't watch last night because I'd only gotten 4 hours sleep the night before, and I was in Spokane, so I decided I'd wait til I had TiVo (and friends!) and could write an entry...

Love that Lil'C is judging, I always enjoy him as a judge.

Randi and Evan: jive by Louis VanAmstel ("Shake a Tail Feather" Ray Charles) I like them both, surprisingly. Her legs are great, and he's adorable, high kicking. Ooooh, OK, I finally get what they're saying when Nigel says it--the jazz vs. the double bounce. Still am wondering about the level of critique vs. how well people do the dances vs. how well the dances are usually done...

Melissa and Ade: jazz by Sonya ("24 Hours" by Terry Poison)...meh. I didn't like the outfits or the choreography, and the dancing didn't convince me otherwise. And Lil' C, you're not convincing me of the use of "buck" by using it on THIS.

Kaitlyn and Jason: hiphop by Shane Sparks ("Missin You" by Trey Songz): well, I like it better than T&N routines, but I thought Kaitlyn wasn't so good.

Janette and Brandon: disco by Doriana Sanchez ("Loving is Really My Game" Brainstorm) Seriously, WTF, DISCO??? Why is there disco? Throw in some more west coast swing. Throw in another two-step. Or some more tango. Or SOMETHING. But...DISCO? WTF. Nigel, the 70s are OVER.

Asuka and Vitolio: Waltz with Louis VanAmstel ("Dreams are More Precious" by Enya) Well, his footwork wasn't great, but his arm lines were good. I hated her dress. I still want to see him dance "his" style. He seems interesting, but...I want to see him do his thing.

Kayla and Max: popjazz with Brian Friedman ("Hot Like Wpw" Nadia Oh) It's unfortunate how much I'm influenced by costumes. I like these much better than the earlier jazz hot pink monstrosity. And I enjoyed this much better than that. Fun (though "hot like wow"? Maybe...) Heh. We just noticed that Max is wearing a corset and collar, adn remembered he is supposed to be a slave boy dancing for the princess...oh, authorial intent...

Karla and Jonathan: contemporary by Stacy Tookey ("Falling Slowly" by The Frames) I liked this. Interesting to watch a new choreograhper. Maybe not Super Amazing Dancing For the Ages. But I liked it a lot. It was good, and I liked the choreography, and the dancing was good, and it was a good song, and I enjoyed it as a whole.

Jeanine and Phillip: tango with Tony Meredith ("Violento" by Bailango!) She was great, and he at least got the footwork great, though his frame was not awesome. He looked hot doing it.

Ashley and Kupono: hiphop by Shane Sparks ("Imma Be" by the Black Eyed Peas) Ehhhhh. I hate to agree with Mary but....it wasn't memorable.

Results Show RIGHT AWAY!

OMG, Cat in...pants?? WTF??

Opening Dance: Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder: HATE the camera work on these group dances. HATE.

Mia dance! I liked the dance...what I could SEE of it. We were surprised it was Mia, because she's not so crisp and contained usually.

Kaitlyn: I don't like her emo bits, but I do think her actual dancing is nice

Jayson: hmm. his leaps are nice.

Ashley: oh, death knell to stay on the stairs so long

Kupono: Oh, no, no no

Kayla: oh, meh

Max: Oh, GET A BETTER SONG. Seriously, Footloose? And that serious look at the end was scary! But he danced well.

OOOOOH, not unanimous! Ooooooh....

Ashley? Not surprising.

Max? I'm surprised--I thought Kupono would go home. Huh.
