[Translation] Myojo 08.2020: Hey! Say! JUMP

Jul 15, 2020 20:59

Hi! I translated the JUMP part of Myojo's August issue. :)

The magazine used old pair photos, and the members talked about the other member paired with them on those photos.

It was nice to read them talking about each other, so I hope you enjoy reading it too!

Yamada about Yuto: He can talk about work seriously the most. I respect him because our way of thinking is different. Also, the part of him that exerts effort to master a lot of things. I often talk with Chinen about how Yuti’s specs are different in the first place. (Note: Specs here could mean Yuto’s skills, experiences, and personality.)

Yuto about Yamada: We have totally opposite personalities. For example, we both like games but I can’t understand the dirtiness of Yama’s [game] controller. (laughs) But both of us have something that the other doesn’t, so I think we have a relationship where we encourage each other and complement each other on aspects that we don’t have.

Yabu about Hikaru: Recently, I received a video call 3 times from Hikaru. But I only answered him once in those 3 times. (laughs) I also had an online call with Matsuda Genta. When there’s the two of us, it gives off an atmosphere where we can just be together even without having conversations. (Note: I’m not sure if Yabu is referring to Genta or Hikaru on the last sentence, but I’m assuming it’s Hikaru based on the interview’s purpose.)

Hikaru about Yabu: Whenever I have meetings regarding work with Yabu, we can immediately decide on anything. We always finish meetings in a short span of time and end up deviating from the actual topic, but it’s fun. It’s a mystery that we’ve always been like that even when it was still the flip phone era and now that it’s already the smartphone era.

Daiki about Hikaru: We’ve been appearing in the show “Hirunandesu!” for a long time, so both of us already know the timing of when the other will speak even without saying anything to each other. Moreover, the songs and artists that influenced our youth are similar. We always exchange information about music!

Hikaru about Daiki: Dai-chan’s voice is loud. I think that he can be heard even without being that loud, but that mischievous side is very Daichan-like. (laughs) He knows when I’m being funny, and vice versa. We also have the same sense of humor!

Daiki about Inoo: Inochan and I have the same taste in movies and games. When I logged in a game last time, Inochan’s history play was unexpectedly recorded. When I asked him about that game, he presented/talked about it twice as passionately as I imagined. (laughs)

Inoo about Daiki: I don’t have anything in common with Daichan, but he’s comfortable to talk with during magazine interviews. I recently watched his recommended foreign drama. It’s amazing how he can show off his bed hair to people [through NEGUShare]. I definitely can’t do that. (laughs)

Takaki about Yuto: We’re the height pair! When I worked with Yuto in the drama, “Suikyuu Yankees,” Yuto diligently leading the set left an impression on me. Not everyone can deal with everything stoically, so I respect him for that!

Yuto about Takaki: I’m an indoor type and Takaki-kun is an outdoor type of person. But I sympathized with him when he used to listen to the sound of a car’s engine from a video site before. He messes around when all the members are together, but he’s diligent and has a high resolve when it becomes just the two of us.

Inoo about Hikaru: It’s a great relaxation that both of us get to talk every week in the radio show. I get the feeling of “I must also work hard!” [because of him]. His mental strength is different from mine. No matter how much no one laughs [when he makes jokes], his toughness on taking the challenge without giving up is amazing.

Hikaru about Inoo: Even if we’re tired, we end up talking endlessly when the topic becomes interesting on our radio show. Our train of thoughts are completely different, so there are a lot of times when he makes me realize, “oh! There’s also that opinion!”

Daiki about Chinen: During work or during makeup time, Chinen is already there when I realize it. We regularly get in touch with each other, and he even called saying that it was a “scheduled contact.” Our hobbies also match. We can talk about useless things and serious things as well, so there are times when we talk for about 3 hours at most.

Chinen about Daiki: Recently, we do a weekly status report. We talk about music and compose music together. What Daiki can’t understand is the mentality of making someone wait. He’s been making me wait for a long time now. I wonder how many hours it will be if I calculate everything…?

Takaki about Inoo: Recently, Inoo-kun and I messaged each other about our recent updates. We have similar energy during off/private time, but the intelligent Inoo-kun gives proper comments during work, so I can freely mess around. It’s a great help. (laughs)

Inoo about Takaki: We couldn’t meet up during quarantine, so I messaged him, “we’ve got nothing to do.” Takaki properly reacts whenever I make a joke, that’s why I can make jokes without worries. He’s easy to talk with! Now that I think about it, he calls all vegetables as “salad.” Why? That’s always my question.

Inoo about Yamada: Last year, we harmoniously made our unit song “Napa Napa.” It was fun. Both of us are stoic and our diligent side is similar, right? Yamada has a personality that is easy to understand, so he doesn’t have anything about him that’s hard to understand!

Yamada about Inoo: Our stance with food exceptionally matches! When we did our calendar photoshoot in Kyoto, both of us ate Hamo (note: Daggertooth pike conger; type of fish). We made a loud reaction saying, “uwa! This is delicious!” That was fun.

Chinen about Yabu: Our recent habit is to send “good morning” to our group chat together with Miyacchi (Miyata Toshiya) and Kitayama (Kitayama Hiromitsu) every morning. That’s why I know what time Kouta woke up and even what he ate. By the way, isn’t your timing of going to the toilet always bad?

Yabu about Chinen: Love for soccer and anime is the common thing that I have with Chinen. There’s nothing that I don’t understand, but our height difference is amazing right? (laughs) He is very close with my older brother’s nephew, so whenever there’s a new video (note: I think video of the nephew) sent to me, I also forward it to Chinen.

Yamada about Chinen: Among the members, he’s the one I spend private time with the longest. When we had drinks at my house, he said that he was hungry at 2:00 am. Even though I was also drunk, I still dizzily went to the kitchen. (laughs)

Chinen about Yamada: The common thing between us is that we don’t get satisfied if we don’t act immediately on something we thought about. I wonder if we’re impatient? (laughs) However, we completely have different views on “being an idol.” Ryosuke goes straight, while I like curve balls. (note: Figuratively, maybe Chinen is saying on the last sentence that Yamada does things properly and is focused on going forward. Meanwhile, Chinen likes to explore more.)

Yabu about Takaki: Whenever we had concert tours before, we stayed in the same room in the past. Even if we’re together, he’s a partner whom I can be careless around. However, I was surprised when he unexpectedly turned up at work with wet hair!

Takaki about Yabu: Recently, I haven’t been doing anything during private time with Yabu-kun. But, there’s the fact that we’re the same age. Whenever I work with Yabu-kun, there’s especially a sense of relief. Maybe there’s an atmosphere that can only be understood between people of the same age.

Yuto about Yabu: He’s someone who takes care of me, teaches me useful English Learning Websites, and is a dependable existence. It feels like I have an older brother. We have the same favorite band and actor, so we went together to a concert too.

Yabu about Yuto: Yuto often teases me about my age whenever I say childish remarks. (laughs) A common thing about us is music! We even went to Bump of Chicken’s concert together.

Daiki about Yamada: I have one thing that I don’t understand about Yamada. Why are you okay with the handle of your toothbrush being covered with toothpaste? (laughs) Also, I sent you a message with a password encryption on your birthday, but I still haven’t heard back from you. Does that mean you still haven’t solved it?

Yamada about Daiki: He has the ability to make you laugh, so it’s a relief when we work together. He also sent me the NEGUShare video he uploaded on my birthday. His dedication is amazing.

Chinen about Takaki: When we met during the filming of a remote program, he told me that he was going to call me. (laughs) Yuya likes to go for long drives, but I don’t know if I want to drive myself. That’s why it’s a great help to have someone like Yuya~

Takaki about Chinen: My overseas trip with Chinen was big. (note: I’m assuming he’s talking about their trip to France for a TV program before.) It became easier to talk to him about various things, and we shared valuable experiences to each other during that trip. I think it deepened our friendship. Our carefree personalities are similar, but it’s amazing how it doesn’t show on Chinen’s facial expression even if there’s something that he doesn’t like.

Yuto about Hikaru: It’s amazing how Hikaru-kun can sleep anywhere at work. (laughs) Whenever we go on a location shoot, Hikaru-kun is the funny guy and I’m the straight guy. He always puts effort to be funny, so even though there are times when I get overwhelmed, I desperately act like the straight t guy. (note: Straight guy here means he’s the one who reacts to the jokes and mistakes of the funny guy. The actual word for it used was tsukkomi.)

Hikaru about Yuto: In our band, I play the bass and he plays the drums. We both do the rhythms, so I think we have similar tastes in music and rhythm. Of course we’re diligent when we’re working together, but it ends up becoming a battle of laughter.

Note: Japanese and English are not my native language, so it might not be 100% accurate.
