It looks like I have a few new readers, however I don't know who you are! Could you please comment on a public post? Also, I do suspect some of you are bots, and I cannot read Russian.
My question was used for Writer's Block a few months ago- it happened then. I was prompted to do a post like this after a friend did the same earlier today. Not all of them look like bots- but it would be nice to know who they are!
I've been having problems ever since I started lj with people adding me that I don't want. Stalkers, bots, ex boyfriends, etc. I wish I could chose who adds and who doesn't like other sites. It would be nice.
i am not a bot, even if mine is a "life, jim, but not as we know it"
- and nor am i even slightly in a confederated state. well, not unless the fish that thinks he's a politician has succeeded more than i expected (if somewhat less than he claims to desire), whilst i wasn't looking.
to the best of my knowledge, i have no detectable quantity of nigerian blood running through my arteries, though i fear that if i thought i'd have half a chance at success, i might sometimes invite strangers to send token amounts of say, a couple of thousand dollars each - to cover registration costs and overheads in starting the process to claim a percentage of the fortune left in a legal limbo by the death of my late husband, president general gowon...
- tell me, meatina, how long have you been feeling like you cannot read russian?
Oh, I am aware you are not a bot, and this post is not aimed at you. You have been respectful of my vegetarianism by refraining from causing any sort of Spam on this journal.
After my question was featured on Writers Block a fair few people added me, many of whom write only in Russian (I have never had any form of Russian instruction).
i am sorry, meatina, to hear that you feel you have never hd any form of Russian instruction; how did this grievous omission come to pass?
you may be cheered up a little, meatina, to discover that if you are familiar with the words, "cosmonaut","kremlin", "sputnik", "soviet", "stolichnya", "tovarich", "vauxhall", or "vodka", you do in fact already know at least a little Russian.
if you have read A Clockwork Orange, meatina, or seen the film, you may also know the word, "droog", and a number of other borrowings from the tongue, for Alex's futuristic slang. though you should be aware that anthony burgess mangled some of them, the better to fit his tale.
and it may amuse you, meatina, to hear that, in Russian, forests are blue...
The Buckinghamshire school system (or at least the parts of it I experienced during 1988-2002) focused on French and German, with options of Spainish and Italian in the later years. Russian was never available to me.
I have picked up a few words, especially during learning about Stalinist Russia for my first year history A-level. I did also read A Clockwork Orange during first Year English A-Level (part of suggested reading list, we didn't study it). I've yet to see the film, but have been told on good authority that it's not a patch on the book. Have you seen the film?
I found you through meat_loaf_fans when you responded to my review of his Birmingham concert and I thought it's be nice to get to know some other Meat Loaf fans on Livejournal.
