Dude, you can't compare Kinks albums to Beatles albums! First off, Ray Davies essentially took over the group after Something Else (writing all the songs, sacking Shel Talmy for production, etc.). Secondly, Davies' songwriting focused amorously on Old Britannia, conservativism, change, and class struggle, whereas Lennon and McCartney essentially split up as a songwriting team but songs by both were basically all about doing mad LSD 'n' smack. If The Kinks could be compared to anyone, I would say The Who which also had one principal songwriter and whose albums became grandiose concepts, something Townsend admits more or less he stole from Davies.

the kinks and the beatles are more commonly compared than the kinks and the who, whether it be a "correct" comparison or not.
