So, today talking to Josh I enumerated my pet peeves. The really big red, shiny, candylike button ones. The kind guaranteed to make you angry in a picosecond and it takes genuine willpower not to go postal ( Read more... )

"Just relax". "Just don't worry about it." "Just" almost anything, for that matter. (Oh, it's that simple? Why didn't I think of that?)

"Don't lift/carry/move/etc. that, you'll hurt yourself!" (Not only am I weak, I am apparently too stupid to avoid injuring myself in this way. Why don't you go right ahead and haul that around for me, Mr. Fat-Fuck-Coronary-Waiting-To-Happen).

Most of what I hear/read/see in the news media, especially the distorted, sensationalized crap that highlights a relatively minor problem while leaving huge areas of related problem utterly ignored (e.g. baby in a trash can headlines vs. a couple thousand child abuse/neglect deaths in the US every year).

People who complain about social problems but aren't willing to do anything to fix them. Hell, even suggesting solutions is a step in the right direction.

  1. Any of the logical fallacies: I'm right because you're smelly, I'm right because this happened to my cousin, I'm right because I rephrased your argument wrong, etc.

  2. People who drive selfishly, and more generally, when people are rewarded for bad manners or selfish behavior.

  3. Hubris in general.

  4. People who treat opposition as hysterical, like your "calm down," or the infamous "Get over it already."

  5. People who assume their beliefs should have the rule of law.

1. Duplicity
2. The phrase "Use your words". I know this is in reaction to my own speeking habits at times, but I really don't need that sort of pressure when I'm trying to get the word 'the from my brain to my mouth
3. My own irrational red buttons that cause me to lash out at those I love. So is that myself?
4. "We'll have to agree to disagree" or "I don't want to talk about this". Seriously, one of us is wrong and I want to get to the bottom of it.

People who get angry or irritated about things they cannot control. Of course, I'm guilty of doing this too. But still I try to tell myself "dude. you can't make the traffic go faster/make it stop raining/change whatever". So when someone is being real aggro about something that is either petty in the grand scheme of things or that simply cannot be changed it tweaks me.
