[THEY SEE ME TROLLIN'--]
How do you know they are friendly though? What if they are waiting for you to lower your defenses?
[It wasn't his original goal, but if he can freak Alfred out about being near pokémon, then his day will be made. He'll do his best to make this happen.]
It's complicated. I used to think of them just as weapons-- a means to an end. Something to show off and prove how strong I am.
I'm not as hard on them these days, for the most part. Got some sense knocked into me when I lost my first battle in over a year.
I try to communicate with them more often. Some've picked up writing, and sometimes my Alakazam translates for them. Even without him, I can usually work things out based on body language.

Parents? I take it you mean for monsters raised from eggs?
And staying because they want to makes me wonder about why bad owners still have monsters then. I have yet to see an abandoned monster, or hear of one leave a trainer of their own free will.

However that idea...]
Had never considered that.

Careful now. It isn't exactly a popular train of thought.

If I cared for popularity I would have agreed with everyone who answered this question.
It is still an interesting idea. Are any of these monsters edible? Magikarp are not.
[He's tried that one already.]

They're my friends, obviously! Just because they take another shape or form doesn't make them any less important!

I have a tendency to see the good in people or... uh Pokémon anyway, so I doubt that.
[Yeah, no wai man. He loves his friends. Wailmer is just like his whale at home okok]

Could strike you out of grass when you sleep. Or wait until the one time you leave them out of their pokéballs and your back is turned...
Especially the more tencious ones; who knows what they are thinking.

Your monsters can read and write?

Plus, Psychic types can speak with telepathy.

Reading and writing however could be useful.

Through for certain pokémon it's because their trainers are their surrogate parents.
