How much time is needed for fandoms to produce quality fic?

There are some fics for The Americans popping up here and there, and I'm kind of wary to read them. Personally, I don't feel like two eps are enough for anyone to really have a grasp of such complex characters. At the same time, writers are not influenced too much by fanon conventions yet either. But I want to read because I can't get enough of

I think it's more a matter of if you luck out and a good writer happens to become an early fan of a show. I've only seen one episode of the show so far, but there's certainly tons of potential for backstory. As far as how long you wait to write, I'm the wrong person to ask, as I always seem to come late to the party with these things.
