Gay marriage to resume in California on August 18

Here is the CNN report, though the video is old and not about this most recent ruling.

Having it not start until August 18 leaves lots of time for it not to happen... but no need to be pessimistic.

gay news, in the news

Yay! Though, August 18 is Wednesday next week -- is there anything they can do to block it before then? I thought the next appeal had to be to the next highest court? Am I mistaken in thinking that'll take awhile? Or is there some other move the other side can make in the meantime? ^__^;;

It's sad, my understanding of legal shit comes down to: (1) don't do bad shit and they won't lock you up* and (2) everything takes forever.

*granted, this is totally idealistic, but my worldviews are totally the same as they were when I was a chibi. :3

It would be awesome if it goes through because then, yeah, the appeal would take forever and then California would learn what other states are learning, that it is really no big deal.

But before Judge Vaughn handed down the judgment last week, the other side had already started filing the appeal, and the judge said that gay marriages would have to wait until after the appeal. So then Olsen and Boies, the lawyers on our side, filed something to ask for the marriages to be able to start now. And Judge Vaughn granted that request today. So I don't know if the other side might file some other thingy-dingy that would then get Judge Vaughn or some other judge to step in and say that we should wait until after the appeal, after all. I have no idea.

Yeah, that is totally the law. Well, except for the first part, but we can hope if we keep our noses clean it will stay true for most of us.
