Found out yesterday that my mom is pregnant, only about two and a half years after she stopped trying to be. Now this is pretty good news, since she still wants a baby, though my dad never really did. The down side is of course the mood stabilizing medication that she's on. While great for her mental health, it's not good for a developing baby,

tell your mom to take a folate supplement? maybe? i don't know how her medication works, so maybe a folate supplement wouldn't make a difference. Plus, neural tube defects, if they occur, will do so very early in the pregnancy.

I suppose its worth a shot either way.

I'm impressed if you knew that off the cuff, without visiting the link. I only read a bit after finding it, and they harp on folic acid like you wouldn't believe.

And yeah, she's betting that any defects would show up in early ultrasounds. Here's hoping.

There's about that much of an age difference between Meredith and her oldest sibling (maybe a little less, but no less than 20).

Yeah, I know... I encouraged it a few years ago when it was for procreation, but as always, that didn't work out, making this their fourth unplanned pregnancy.
