I'll be glued to the Weather Channel all weekend. My brother in NJ and my dad in Philly, as well as all of my east coast friends and relatives, are in my thoughts.
Hurricane party! Guys, indeed. I hope everyone stays safe and dry.
I see you've got friends and family in harm's way, too, Shirebound. Yes, I'll be watching a lot of weather, too. Hopefully lots of reports featuring disappointed announcers and interviews with people irate because they boarded up their homes and bought piles of provisions "for nothing". ;)
That's good to hear, Mews. I'm hoping that's all that happens around the D.C. suburbs. I was there at my mom's a few years back when there was a hurricane, a smaller one, which knocked down trees in the neighbourhood and tore off branches, but the power only went out momentarily. It went off for a long time in some other metropolitan areas, however. I guess we won't know until it happens.
Yeah, my brother is in the "or..." category, ha ha. Or so I think. I suppose they'll be fine, knowing when to get out of their moored boats and sprint up the dock before everything turns to splinters. They are all experienced boaters, and people who've seen some bad weather in their day. But, yes, like you (like everyone?), I just hope the whole hurricane downgrades to something less monstrous than the predictions. Better to have people moaning about how they did this and that for the big storm that didn't happen than have all their labours justified - or even wiping away the precautionary work they've done.
I saw some guy being interviewed on TV this morning, and he and his wife were in North Carolina, I think. They asked him if he was going to evacuate, and he was like "Well, they told us a few years ago there'd be a bad hurricane, and it turned out to be nothing. So I'm not going anywhere this time." The stupidity of some people.
It was as if he was going to 'show' the authorities for making a false prediction before. I guess he would have liked it better if the authorities had predicted nothing, and it had been an enormous storm. Of course, then he would've complained about that! lol.
I see that type of stuff all the time when disasters strike. So many people want to thumb their noses at people who are trying to help them. I don't get it.
People are odd, aren't they? Or maybe that's how people are, but many of us learn to reason with ourselves better and suppress that kind of senseless thinking. There's an air raid, everyone takes cover. The planes go over but no strafing, no bombs dropped. Most people sigh with relief but there are sure to be those who complain that they lost ten dollars, having had to fold a winning hand in the middle of their card game, or that they were doing some other thing and were interrupted; or there may even be dopes that are disappointed they *weren't* attacked, having worked up the excitement to meet it. I confess to experiencing a visceral thrill when I hear there's a tornado warning, and an illogical sense of let-down when it fails to materialize, yet my rational mind is relieved and happy.

Wow, your brother is either brave or... :-)
God bless us all, everyone! May the storm weaken, indeed.
