Conversation 003 [Video]

[Kanaya is staring intently into the SFC, holding it near enough to her face that nothing above her head can be seen.]

I take it then that most of us have awoken with our ordinary attire disappeared? And our other personal belongings have similarly absconded? Is this one of those "curses" I have heard references to?

[The SFC is pulled further ( Read more... )

No idea! I got one too!

[Above Cielo's head is the following:

RainbowArch
Lvl 1 Sage
H.P. 100% Mana 100%
Lives Remaining 3]

Got no clue what it means, but... tings ain't right.

[He can't change form, for one.]

[She stares at the SFC for a moment to read his title.]

Yours seems innocuous to me. Unless there is some reference to yours that I lack the necessary information to comprehend it, at least. Mine is... not quite an insult, but certainly a bit of a jab at me.

[Kanaya takes a moment to reach to her side and draw her new katana, making a few practice swipes at the air.]

Do you have any idea what a "samurai" or "sage" in the context of these might be? I'm finding this sword remarkably easy to wield...

I couldn't say. I don't got any more idea dan you do.

I didn't get a sword like dat... Kinda jealous, really. I got dis staff ting.

[And robes, but he doesn't mind that so much.]

Had I known about this beforehand, I would have expected there would be a guide or explanation of sorts around somewhere. A guide or walkthrough or some kind of information, presented in some form. Instead it seems we'll all be learning via trial by error.

[This is a bit of an annoyance. She likes having guides available to these games of life and death.]

Hmm. A simple plain staff might be used in combat, but the more elaborate sorts seem to have some other function to them. Perhaps it is a magic staff? Have you tried to do anything with it?

...You may not want to be near anything flammable if you do try.

[She blinks at his title for a moment, as it's another that she has no idea what it might have come from.]

From the conversations I've had with a few others on the matter, it seems as though we're being put through the paces of a game. One in which we are outright given different roles, skill sets, and outfits than we ordinarily have.

...I really don't have any guesses as to what a silver sandwich is or what that as a title signifies.

I'm not sure what measure of improvement you want to hold this game to... It at least has been able to give several opportunities to experience---one moment please.

[Kanaya flicks to another video for a moment to try dealing with the young demon who has just lit something on fire.]

...Well. A number of people are experiencing unfamiliar skills that some are delighted by and some rather clearly not. If you find anyone with 'mage' as their class, please advise them to practice their fire spells somewhere away from flammable objects. Such as their clothing.

[There is now a pink-haired girl in a red cloak staring back at you, Kanaya. Above Kim's head floats
witchofthedorm
Lvl 1 Red Mage
H.P. 100% Mana 100%
Lives Remaining 3]

I think it's got something to do with us personally. The title I mean.

[Kanaya examines Kim's title and nods slowly.]

A mage and a witch are at least somewhat synonymous terms, and if you originate from a "dorm" then it sounds quite plausible. Mine, though...

[Kanaya scowls up at the words above her head again.]

I suppose it does, as it's a shortened form of a slightly insulting nickname for me, but I don't know why it would be floating above my head like this. And a few of the others have titles that make no sense as descriptions to them.

It's strange that it would be so inconsistent.

Maybe this place is just messing with us. I mean if they're inconsistent, it's probably someone's idea of a sick joke. [She sighs and rubs her forehead.] I haven't even been here that long. Not a good way to make a first impression, Vatheon.

It is my understanding that the curses are rarely beneficial, and ordinarily some kind of annoyance. If Vatheon seeks to impress us, it seems to be primarily through the free resources and energy from the coral. And even then, at least one of the locals has mocked me for not seeking to leave...

[The reminder sets Kanaya to frowning again, until she notices a detail in Kim's remark.]

Are you also a new arrival? I awoke in the plaza little more than two weeks ago.

[Kanaya studies his, giving a slight nod when she sees 'heir' listed, given his role in the Sburb game. At his question she winces and looks away.]

It is a shortened version of something Vriska has called me in the past. If your theory is right, what do you suppose the conditioner part of your title refers to?

[Kanaya is attempting to Evade and Counterattack! However, she failed to evade his remark. She now hopes to deflect attention by drawing attention to his unusual title instead!]

[Hurray! She is relieved by his laughter and apparent distraction. Unfortunately, humor from a pun is much better when one quickly recognizes the terms involved in it. It takes her a moment of thought before she knows what he's talking about.]

Oh, I didn't think of that. Air conditioners are those units that utilize dehumidifying principles to cool the air around them, right? I'm used to just staying in the shade and taking advantage of the breeze. Which I guess would make your title very appropriate in my old home.

[Keyword and icon are relevant. A flat, faintly annoyed stare meets this newcomer's gaze.]

I don't think meddling is the word if the people in question appreciate the help. And... I've been trying to ask before providing help.

[Yes. Kanaya's attempt to evade the remark was ineffective.]

[Step off. Just trying to assist in your quest to figure out that username. Hajime for one is holding the SFC so his stats can't be seen.]

That's meddling.

[Your shyness does not assist her in regarding him positively. Also, by that definition, would his offer of assistance be meddling? She's going to eye the SFC with a hope of seeing anything above your head, and not be subtle about it.]

I think that definition is subject to debate. But anyway the irritation I have with the title is that it is a specific and fairly private reference that I don't appreciate being broadcast like this. It hasn't even been used since I came to Vatheon...
