Conversation 007: [video] -I Cant Think Of A Good Bond Joke-

Oct 28, 2011 21:58

[A video feed opens from Kanaya's device, showing a few out of a window onto the decorated streets. It pans along the length of a lane, slowing on a few distant damaged buildings, then turns abruptly toward her face. She frowns at the camera, immediately speaking.]I don't hear crashing sounds from the tentacles thrashing about, and the water seems ( Read more... )

...Yes. From the kraken. I don't think I dreamed that whole attack.

Oh, if you arrived very recently, then that's possible. I think the attack was two weeks ago.

[She pauses to consider the question, and eventually gives a slow shrugs.]

I didn't hear what its intentions were as I was asleep during the fight's resolution. The attack took us by surprise, and if anyone discovered the reason I haven't heard of it yet.

Those little flying creatures? And about your question, both. I haven't looked outside because I was in a coma.

I had been rather tired, but not enough for a sudden and unwilling nap. The last thing I remember was going to the coral. Maybe I overestimated myself, and didn't reach it in time.

[She pauses briefly.]

Wait, everyone? Have any of the others fallen asleep too?

The kraken's gone, all gone now. And the spiderwebs are for Halloween.

Oh good. So it was successfully defeated, and the city is being repaired. That's a big relief.

...A friend mentioned that. It's a human holiday right? What is it about?

Yes! Someone played a song on a banjo, and it just went away.

[She nods excitedly.] It's about scary things, but it's all in fun. People dress up in costumes and have parties, and Rena's heard that in some places, people go trick-or-treating.

[Kanaya finds the first remark perplexing.] Played on a banjo...?

So people conceal themselves in unnerving attire, but it's purely for fun? How elaborate do the acts of frightening another get?

I am relieved to know that you are doing well, Kanaya. I was growing a bit concerned.

Thank you for your concern, Dolorosa. I seem unharmed by the experience, aside from my frustration with the disorientation that comes with any manner of time shenanigans. Also it seems like everyone did well enough in the fight that I wasn't truly needed.

In the end it was the fight that wasn't truly needed. The beast refused any and all attempts mustered to cull it; the solution was a much more peaceful one, in which someone essentially put it to sleep with a lullaby. As strange a story it may be for Trolls to hear, I think we can learn something from it.

Specifically regarding alternatives to vicious culling.

Wow, yeah, that doesn't sound like it's a matter of moirails. So it was ultimately a random stranger pacifying it?

It might eventually wake back up and continue the assault. This is a good peaceful interim, but how can we be sure it will last..?

[Mamarosa, Kanaya genuinely likes the idea. But there are also times when death is the only way to keep an enemy still. How to resolve that?]

...I have no idea what the spiderwebs may be for. But yes, the tentacles are gone now, as well as the beast they were attached to.

[A pause...]

You truly didn't notice?

I was struck by the mysterious affliction of lengthy sleep, it seems. I have only just woken up... And it seemed like the best way to find out what had happened was to open this feed and address the community.

Oh.

[...

Rue is perhaps not sure exactly how to respond to that. Given the nature of the city, though, and other instances of people falling into a lengthy sleep, it is not entirely unbelievable.]

Well. Apparently some music was enough to keep the beast at bay. Music, from a banjo...

So things have calmed, for the time being.
