bristol coven, first six:
delia sampson
descended from agnes sampson
icons | pb: isabella heathcote
Delia is the last person you would ever suspect of witchcraft. She's a primary school teacher, engaged to be married (and she's waiting, she says, primly, and you can guess what for), and it's not some kind of fake persona she's concocted; yes, she's really just like that. This actually is part of what makes her different; in 2011, she's so to the extreme of sweetness and light it can attract some negative attention and judgment. She just also happens to be one of the old lines, and just because she strives to be a nice girl and is perhaps a bit naive doesn't mean she's dumb at all. On the contrary, she's very good at getting people to do what she wants them to...by letting them think it was all their own idea in the first place. That way, everybody ends up happy!

icons daphne henot-james
descended from katharina henot
voixdeville |
icons | pb: kate walsh
Daphne is flamboyant, well-traveled, and has the type of personality which sometimes approaches theatrical; ten or twenty years ago, she worked in some vaudeville and burlesque-type clubs, and don't even ask her about the 1980s in New York. Now she owns one in Bristol;all that space at her disposal helps in making her ideal for the coven. It's a little spooky, a little crazy, and very, very well put-together, and because some pretty insane things go on there, she does keep reasonably stringent standards for not letting in the obviously underage. That said, things happen, in life and in magic.
One learns to roll with it, one way or another.

icons hedy von borcke
descended from sidonia von borcke
icons | pb: ashley madekwe
19-year-old Hedy is the descendant of a woman maligned for having a child out of wedlock and being unprejudiced toward the "gypsies" in her native Pomerania; in present day, this has resulted in an interest in seeing justice done. She's what is colloquially termed a "ladyblogger" who turns in decent revenue through writing articles, which are frequently highly controversial. She was also a big initial skeptic of witchcraft, but even if the old lines have faded considerably, she knows her differences aren't just ones of personality. Unlike the others, she was raised with full awareness of being descended from 'Sidonia the sorceress', due to the familial history of writing down what's occurred; if anyone of the coven could be said to be their biographer, it's her. Hedy figures that while she and her ancestor probably aren't a thing alike, going by the legends, that doesn't mean she can't carry on the family name magically.

icons madeline barth
descended from angele de la barthe
charm_no_harm |
icons | pb: claire foy
Sharp-tongued, straightforward, and disinterested in the things "girls are supposed to do", Maddy is from a somewhat wealthy family that's of the type that spends more time raising pricey horses than at parties in frothy overpriced dresses. She's a young doctor and a driven, professionally competitive young woman. She's also trained as a midwife, and while her bedside manner isn't always perfect, she does the job well, and she applies the same discipline to magic. She doesn't understand why everyone needs everything to be exciting and dramatic all the time, and isn't especially performative in nature, but she is pretty awesome at a karaoke bar, when the other girls get a few drinks in her. She's a loyal, trustworthy person beneath the prickles, genuinely, which is more than a lot of witches can actually say.

icons veronica zozaia
descended from maria de zozaya
icons | pb: Alice Braga
Veronica has always had some back-of-her-mind connection to spirituality, but nothing ever quite made sense until she officially got into magic. She unironically enjoys the occult stores and the atmosphere, though she can admit when it gets a little silly; she's a bit of a hippie, it can't be helped. She teaches yoga at a local health center (don't get cheeky, she's heard all the flexibility jokes before), and her range includes hatha, vinyasa, Bikram's hot yoga, and anusara, but her specialty is the one-on-one focus of viniyoga, where she feels she best manages to successfully connect with her students.

icons bryony meath
descended from petronilla de meath
icons | pb: Ruta Gedmintas
Bryony exemplifies the not-really-fitting in qualities of witchdom; she has a suitably devil-may-care attitude to go along with it, but the attitude carries some serious wounds, some of which are psychic remnants from the treatment her ancestor got. Said ancestor happened to be servant of Alice Kyteler, and both were persecuted for witchcraft; Petronilla died, and Alice raised her child. Bryony's home life wasn't excellent, either, but she's persevered long enough to move to Bristol, where she works as an apprentice in a tattoo parlor and even manages to consistently show up to work. Thus far.

icons bristol coven, second six:
wilhelmina "billie" clemens
descended from anna klemens
icons | pb: felicity jones
Billie is sixteen, which means she has not fully come into her power yet; there are vestiges, certainly, but full actualizing truly begins at seventeen and ends at twenty or twenty-one. She has a pretty awful time at school and skives off whenever possible, even more so than the average teenager. While she's accepted she's not "cool" in the conventional sense, she does have a little bit of a vicious, physical temper that's caused some of the other kids to give her a wide berth, so she's not exactly a victim of bullying...any more, anyway.

icons isabel francesco
descended from matteuccia de francesco
make a username liisu | icons | pb: marisa tomei
Isabel has always been a little quirky, she supposes you'd put it. Loud, sometimes even kind of a spaz, she's used to people wondering if she's on some kind of serious upper; people are prone to guessing she's younger than thirty. She's married, has been for five years, and hasn't quite found it satisfactory, resulting in affairs on both sides (her current one is a 22-year-old kid who's not all that intellectually stimulating, but that's not always what you want, y'know?) and Isabel's discovery of her magical ancestry. Despite her bouncy attitude, she's the Bristol City Council's Service Director, meaning she has over 600 people working for her, directly or indirectly. It keeps her busy. Not busy enough to keep her out of magic, though.

icons victoria pamb
descended from anna pamb
icons | pb: Halina Reijn
The elder of the Pamb sisters, descendants of Anna Pamb, aka 'Pappenheimer', Victoria suffers from a physical "echo" of the hideous torture Anna Pamb encountered before meeting her death during the witch trials in Germany. She is not completely blind, but her vision is poor, and she is technically classified as an albino. She works from home doing freelance copywriting, and though it may seem that she's the shyer of the Pamb sisters, she's much more emotionally steady.

icons jacqueline pamb
descended from anna pamb
icons | pb: Charlotte Riley (?)
Jacqueline is the Pamb sister you're more likely to see out of the big country house the Pamb sisters own, and she's very protective of Victoria, but she's also a little too spacey and volatile for people to consider her quite right, either. Jacqueline gets sudden, violent visions of what Anna experienced, and is so post-cognitive that touching the wrong object with the wrong associations can disable her for hours or even days. It's hell on her mental health, too.

icons audrey reed
descended from adrienne d'heur
choicedivides |
icons | pb: Lauren German
Audrey is descended from Adrienne d'Heur, but through the course of an adoption ended up with the surname Reed. She comes from an intellectual family and is actually studying Medieval history, with the intentions of someday writing fictional books that have historically accurate backgrounds. Her weirdness is mostly accepted by her family, and it's fairly unusual for most witches to be so close to theirs, but now that Audrey's cutting the cord somewhat and being drawn toward the coven, things might change, and drastically.

icons sybil kruckow marsden
descended from christenze kruckow
icons | pb: Miranda Otto (?)
Sybil is of Scandinavian descent, widowed several years back. She and her husband were both members of the Royal Navy, though she's chosen to pursue other avenues now. These days she's more of a career woman, earthy and better-traveled in the roughest, least-developed places on earth than metropolitan hotspots like Paris and Milan. She is athletic and adventurous (exploration ventures to frozen locales? Yes, please), and seems to have mostly channeled the innate wildness of witches into productive, healthy means. Mostly.
