Disproportionate responses?

I have spent some time wondering about how and why some people react to erotica on the Internet. Specifically us - people who read fic, appreciate art, watch vids, etc that are shippy or sexual or romantic in nature. Here is what I have discovered about myself:

Number one most definitely applies to me, but there are specific ways I like to read /see/imagine my ship, so there are fics I just don't read, even about them. Although there is one author whose writing I adore so much I've read everything, including stuff I normally wouldn't.

I focus on my ship and only my ship. I rarely, if ever, stray from my OTP. I generally feed off what my favorite authors are reading to guide and navigate through journals.

I have never found anything so disturbing or offensive that I wanted to throttle the author in rl., but again, I generally feed off what my favorites are reading and commenting on so there is a certain security in that for me.
