On night one of Tanner's "leave of absence" from work, he took the night off to watch some DVDs and kick back. Relax. It was the first time in a couple months he didn't have to devote every waking hour to either his work or to some Kindred matter.
On night two, he grew restless. He chatted with some Kindred on the computer, but came to very little. The Prince of Boston might like to have him come out to help with a blood-work issue. Tanner did his studying up for the job, and then cleaned his small apartment.
On night three, he was bored out of his mind. Through more chatting online, he found that Leon was eager to volunteer support on the Boston venture if it should come. He was also following up on local matters... and seemed reluctant to take Tanner up on his own offer of aid.
On night four, he sat on the roof of his apartment building, having climbed up the side of the building just because he could. He sat and looked around at the Seattle skyline and wondered what to do with himself.
Too much time on my hands already, he thought. It should have been obvious. Trying to hold down a night-shift job during the summer was nearly impossible, but Tanner had never been one for much idle time. This has gotta be how vampires get to be such shitty people. They've got too much time on their hands. If they had jobs, maybe they wouldn't be so busy fucking each other over.
It wasn't like there was anything to be missed from leaving the Movement. There had been a Carthian-inspired praxis seizure in Los Angeles... probably something stupid. Though Severus got himself torp'ed, which was good for a giggle, at least. Still, it was probably a bunch of shit. Then that thing with Grace--also good for a giggle when heard about second-hand, but probably also just a bunch of shit.
Tanner looked out at the downtown skyline, his gaze lingering on the Columbia Tower. Too many other hands working on that mess, he figured, dismissing it. Or, alternately, many people simply claiming to be working on it, but regardless, it's not like Tanner even knew where to start beyond physical recon.
He thought about going further in looking in on the Odin's Blood matter, but again, there were enough other people looking into that now. If he stepped in, it'd probably just throw things into chaos.
Tanner sighed.
Bein' a vampire and not bein' stupid is seriously fuckin' dull.
