I usually start a search with out it and only use them to modify the search if I don't get what I'm after with the first search.

Yes, any place where they'd be useful (i.e. not in most major search engines but definitely in other search situations)

I use Boolean operators a lot which tends to get me in trouble because research databases tend to be Boolean friendly but other systems, not so much these days. Just TRY to use a Boolean in a seach bar on most websites. The system just kicks you out, like, "What the fuck was THAT?! We don't use AND!"
