I ran across the mention of an article at Club Jade that was interesting. Apparently there was a "story thread" that got thrown out of the OT, according to producer Gary Kurtz:

It is a very interesting idea. I didn't know this had happened. I wonder if it would have changed Vader's death too or if it would have happened a different way. The Vader that Gary Kurtz is describing sounds like a person who has matured emotionally over the years.

No twins? I wouldn't have minded that either, it was like it was used to tie up loose ends and so there would be no hard feelings between Luke and Han, but then that would've changed the whole EU too.:)
