A response to a Poke the Dragon prompt by cobblestonepath:
“Miranda and Andy, cooking together.”

Rating: G

A/N: This is an AU event in my AU series, Life Is a Banquet. By which I mean, it doesn’t fit into LIAB as currently outlined (I may try to fit bits of it in later), but it does make use of its characters, Miranda Priestly, renowned fashion editor ( Read more... )

Yummy! I'm very glad that Miranda is now clear about where Doug's attention lies. Also, I can't wait to see what else is on the menu!

Thanks for sharing.

The menu has been a challenge -- I'm still trying to i.d. the right salad, keep wanting to add watermelon for some reason. Then again, I tell myself, watermelon must be in season in October somewhere in the world, right? More yumminess this weekend, I think. Thanks for commenting.

I recently had a watermelon, feta cheese and arugula salad that was really terrific - the vinaigrette was a little limey and totally brightened the dish. I've certainly had watermelon from Costa Rica throughout the fall and winter.

How about watermelon, heirloom tomato, cucumber, aged balsamic, and fresh herbs? I've also been checking out beet salads -- which would totally amaze my mom, who could never get me to eat 'em.

I love that Miranda gave Doug insider tips on Nigel... Now if only she realized that Nigel and Doug are doing the same!! Love the effort put into this -- the subtleties of their exchanges, deliciousness of the couture and the friendships at work behind the scenes are fantastic. Sage and brown butter is a heavenly combo, and toasted pumpkin seeds is a lovely touch! Kudos to you for being able to concoct such a lovely fall dish. it's hotter than hell lately, so the capacity to think of anything beyond frozen margaritas and grilled foods is admirable.

Word. Researching fall foods and fall fashion when the heat index is 101 is definitely a challenge. And to think I owe this all to you. [grin] Thanks a heap. Really. Because even though this plot was nowhere on my LIAB storyboard, it's been fun trying to figure out what the food equivalent of the language of flowers would be.

Aww, I'm glad to be a beneficiary! Regarding your salad question above, Stephanie Izard (I <3 her) does an awesome beet salad with white anchovies (I know, but work with me on this one) and creme fraiche that is to die for. I am even more obsessed with her kohlrabi salad, but the only recipes I can find online are for her summer iteration with blueberries and mint. I think it stays pretty much the same in fall, though, except she uses pear and ginger -- the fennel, which is key, stays consistent throughout the year if I'm not mistaken.

Doug was quite dashing when he greeted Miranda and got her drink. Then he went from suave to just plain cute when he realized he had to get ready for his date.
I can't wait to see how the dinner experience progresses.
Thanks for the read.

Doug is a sweetie -- and it seems he's got some fashion smarts, too. He and Nigel should have lots of fun tonight. Miranda and Andy may too, but it may take a little longer. Next installment this weekend, I hope. Thanks for the continuing encouragement.

I've started putting thumbnails together to help me remember what I dressed people in, etc. I thought the visuals might interest you as well -- glad you like 'em. Next two courses up in a weekend installment, I hope. Thanks for commenting.
