More than anything I want to get in one of those movie star's faces and ask them how unjustified they would consider this whole thing if the person who fled sentencing for the rape of a little girl were a freaking janitor. This is all so disgusting.
God, seriously. The man has some serious moviemaking talent, and he's justifiably respected in the artistic community, but that doesn't change the fact that he did a despicable, illegal thing and he needs to be held responsible just the way anyone else would be. What the blazing fuck, people, artistic talent is not such a rare commodity that we need to preserve and coddle it at the expense of all kinds of criminal behavior - the filmmaking world will survive the time it takes him to serve his plea bargain sentence and get back to work.
Also, the Free Polanski petition is breaking my heart with all the formerly cool people I have to start hating now.
Dude, I'm being very ostrich about the petition. It really doesn't help me to know. Apparently Greg Grunberg and Kevin Smith are speaking out for the rest of us, though. That I'll keep in mind. And to think, I never liked Matt Parkman.
Yeah, Greg Grunberg and Kevin Smith have both been publicly WTFing over all the Polanski support. So has Neil Gaiman, in case I needed another reason to love him.
