Workshop Woes (not really)

Dec 19, 2010 20:58

Ok, here goes.

I haven't posted here in a long while, and workshop it is gonna be. I seem to be using Facebook (oh noes) for menial stuff most often. I guess this is a good thing. That stuff better be forgotten.

I have a feeling this is gonna get long. Perhaps I should ( cut it already. )

That looks really hard!

On thin sheet, it is easier. When you have to exert more pressure, it is easy to lose control over your fingers. I don't know if it is actually good practice, it may encourage bad habits. This sheet is too thin to wear on its own, so it is only good for enamelling, and still it has to be set. That is mostly what I do, though.

My respect for the Bronze Age smiths grows ever greater. Some day I'll put up a post about the Lugtonridge shield - you'll like that stupendous piece of Bronze Age workmanship!

They are a great influence to me. I do often feel tempted to just copy their work, hehe. If only I had the time to make everything I want to.

So yes, respect, but also envy! it is very rewarding, I am sure they had a blast.

Wow, heh :D I wouldn't think anyone would enjoy these posts ;)

So impatient to receive it! but with weather conditions and holidays and so on, it will probably be for January... sigh.

I very much enjoy reading them. I'm not allowing myself to pick up any new hobbies or crafts, so I love reading about others and enjoying them vicariously.

I admire your discipline :) I have no discipline, heh.

But in a way, I am on the fence about the hobby stuff. I mean, I do not make money out of any of this, I spend money on it, so it is a hobby. But enamel and jewellery in particular is also what I studied for, so it is my profession. This is my justification for spending too much money on it, I guess *shrug*

Other things I do, they are definitely hobbies, though.

Whatever works is good. I've found plasticine too squishy for support when I've tried to use it... but I know others who like it a lot. Pitch- of whatever kind- is a lot more fussy. Stuff like Jett-set can also be useful though it's hard to figure out the open window of the stuff, in my opinion.

I guess it would also depend on the kind of plasticine, and the room temperature. This plasticine is relatively stiff. But it would not work for thicker sheet.

I am really excited to receive the materials and tools!
