House renovations have been focusing on 2 rooms, the bedroom (also known as the "Barney" room for it's purple and green decor) and the Kitchen.
Progress in pictures:
Barney room first, in all of it's pink and green glory:
I used an entire tube of caulk in this room, in addition to a tube of wood filler. Finally, the prep work was done, and ready to start painting:
And with a couple coats of primer:
I've gotten a little further than this now. After 4 coats (2 primer, 2 paint), the ceiling is FINALLY white with no green showing through. And I chose a warm "tea green" for the walls. Still needs one coat to be done, but so much better now.
And the kitchen. The kitchen is tiny, and was painted an unfortunate brown color. There is a lot of good in the design, every spare bit is filled with storage space which is sort of awesome. So the epic task of priming and painting has progressed. You wouldn't believe how long it takes to paint the inside of all those tiny cabinets. I found a gallon of "white-ish" paint in the basement, it's a little old, and a bit lumpy and uneven, but for the inside of cabinets, it's awesome. Hard to argue with free.
Progression. How it used to look:
How it looks at the moment, priming done. You can really see how much better it looks if everything isn't so dark. I was tossing around ideas for colors for this room, and my ex-coworker who's now an interior designer was over today, and I got some great ideas from her. She suggested grey and white, and I was leery at first (it sounded so modern), but she showed me what she was thinking, and it's this warm brownish grey, and I really think it might work. The countertops are sort of a brown swirl with a hint of gold in them, and the grey she was thinking really looked nice with it. So I may give that a shot.
And the cabinet doors set up in the basement:
My friend Jen also had some fantastic ideas for the living room, much more creative than I was thinking, involving being pretty bold with that curved area between the crown molding and the ceiling proper, to draw the eye up to that really neat textured ceiling:
