Kitty: Home Hospice, Day 4.

Jun 29, 2010 11:33

Lucy's creatin and BUN numbers are worse after 4 days of being home with us. Creatin has gone from 723 to 974. That's a pretty big jump and indicates that all is very much not well with her kidneys. We've brought her home and will continue to monitor and cuddle her. I think it is time to start saying goodbye to our beloved cat.

I'm glad you have a little time to do so.

Me too. It's been quite a process, but it is rich and full and I feel blessed to have shared so much time with Lucy.

So sorry. Keep her comfy, keep her company, and that's the best you can do.

Keeping you in mind.

Thank you. We're all just keeping each other company today and preparing for what comes next. She looks as comfortable as I think she could be.

Thinking of all of you guys during a very sad time.

Thank you. I feel that while this is very sad, it is one of those cases of better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all. I'm glad to have had her company all these years and wouldn't trade the whole experience for anything.

Oh, honey. I've been following along, but not really knowing what to say. Thinking of you guys, though.

Thanks for your kind words. It is a poignant time. Lucy has been pretty much just sleeping today. We are continuing to give her her meds and subQ fluids, but I don't think we have much longer together. I'm just happy to have had such a long and lovely time with her company and to have a chance to say goodbye at home.

She is a good little cat and she had a long and very adventurous life. (Well, I have to think that moving to NZ equals adventure.) It's never easy no matter what, but you guys have done well by her.

It's an intense experience, but one which I think comes with the territory of falling in love with and sharing 16 years with such a personable and lovely cat.
