That's just it, Miss. Colby: These are not entirely our own private journals. These are markable assesment tasks set by the Muggle Studies department, if I'm not mistaken. The marking criteria (which, if you've lost your copy, you could probably get another copy of from Professor Argle) states that school policy does extend to and apply to what is put in our journals. If you'd make a reference to the school policy, cussing is not tolerated in any form. This is an assable task and goes towards our NEWTS. In the end, it's your own marks you're throwing away by offending your fellow students.
Forgive me - I was under the impression that 'the journal project' had long since careened out of control and become something far more personal to each and every one of us.
How many of us would really discuss our romantic liasons and sex lives in a journal we were supposed to be keeping for school?
If you're going to enforce this censorship issue it seems to me you're going to have to think about that as well.
Essentially, it's still for the same purpose, no matter what we hold it to be. Which means that our teachers read these. They can't do much about us talking about "our romantic liasons and sex lives". We're being encouraged to express ourselves but keep in mind that through our language use we're representing the school at the same time. We're not suddenly enforcing this. Terry found it a concern that these standing rules were being disregarded and warnings had to be handed out, so he addressed at the prefect's meeting like he should have. He reminded those in attendance that we shouldn't be cussing in our journals, and some particular people in attendance made the swiss alps out of ant hills.
But if this is the case then perhaps I shall withdraw from the journal project altogether. I don't like to be censored. Has anyone actually taken this up with Professor Argle?
