Firefox 1.5

Nov 30, 2005 10:43

Firefox 1.5 has been released. There's not a lot to see in terms of changes, but it's technically better.
I grabbed my installer from here.
The mirrors for Australia don't seem to have updated yet.

Firefox usage is only 8-10% according to some sources. It should be higher. Get it and remain Free.

I'm using the latest release candidate on my Mac and I like it a lot - it falls over on my shitty G4, but it does it less than Safari. We also run it on our PCs, so we'll have to download this one...

Thanks for the heads-up.

Woo! Good to hear.
OSX support is supposed to be much better in 1.5. Although, I don't think much has changed between 1.5rc3 and the release, hopefully those crashes you are seeing will be fewer.

Also, good to hear you may be moving back to the area!

I love the ability to move tabs around. Very cool. I always have heaps of Tabs open and being able to shuffle them is great. 1.5 is working perfectly on my Powerbook.

Yeah - I'm the same. I open heaps of tabs and then get frustrated with not being able to have them where I want them. It's only a small change, but makes things sensible. Bizarrely, IE7 won't have this feature when it's released.

Having Fx on Mac is good as Safari doesn't seem to have complete support for all websites.

I'm using Opera exclusively these days, and find it hard to switch back to Firefox. I've been playing around with 1.5, but meh. PITA to have to update all the extensions I've got to make it more Opera-like, so I figure why bother :)

Well, it's not Free, but it's not IE either. :)
Keep up the good work.

Actually, it is free to download now...

The one thing I really like about Opera is the ability to have it open to the tabs and windows that you had when you last quit a session. 20 tabs browsing knives, bang, just pop up again. If Firefox had that, it would be killer.

Still, when I say that Firefox falls over on my Mac, that's no huge drama. Everything sets off my Mac these days. Stupid piece of crap!

I meant "Free", as in freedom. Not "free", as in free beer. :) There was a link, *and* a capitalisation! :D

I'm not sure if Fx has that exact feature you're talking about, but I do know that you can save all open tabs as a group, and then open that group later. I do it every morning when I start my apps so that I get LJ, ABC, Slashdot, etc. all opened up in one hit.

Yeah, pluces was also complaining about Fx falling over on his Mac. :/ That's dissappointing.
