Peyton was surprised to see her roommate there when she returned. "Meg! You're back! Hey, how's your mom doing?"

Peyton's eyes went wide. "You're... oh Meg... I... god. I don't know what to say. I'll miss you."

Peyton nodded. "Yeah. I guess in your position I'd be saying the same thing. hell, if I had a real family I probably wouldn't even be here myself."

Meg took her tennis racket from the closet and set it next to her bag. "But your are. So make the best of it."

"I think I've got it under control," Meg replied. "I'm just going to get everything stuffed into my bags and they'll send someone to get them. But I didn't want to just disappear without saying good-bye and thanks. It's been fun."

Peyton nodded. "Then I'll just... leave you to it," she said awkwardly. "Let me know if there's anything I can do."

Peyton nodded again and retreated to her side of the room where she'd be out of the way, but handy if needed.

Meg continued quietly packing until everything was ready to be picked up. She lifted her computer bag onto her shoulder and glanced at Peyton. "I'd better go. I want to get to the hospital to visit for a bit. Thanks for everything."

Peyton got up and crossed the room to her, wanting to hug her, but not sure Meg would allow it. "You take care, okay? I'll be keeping you and your family in my thoughts."

Knowing a hug was expected in a situation like this, Meg gave Peyton a quick, slightly awkward one. "Thanks. I appreciate it. Take care of yourself."

She gave one last wave then slipped from the room.
