I had so much fun Saturday night putting up the pendulum--I decided to hang it from one of the beams in the lower part of the barn, and not to try and hang it from one up in the loft. Foucault's first one was only about six feet long because he put it up in his basement anyway, so I can be simple with this first one

I once saw a Foucault's pendulum at the Science Museum that had a little pointer on the bottom of the pendulum that drew a pattern in the sand--they would wipe it away every morning and let it draw it again. Maybe we could try that....

We'd need something to keep the sand in so it didn't get scattered.
