Sexism and the Music Industry

It took me watching way too much Reality TV to have this as a train of thought, the show being Rockstar : Supernova. Don't get me wrong, I think the band will suck because the guys in it are stuck a couple of decades back (exception goes to Tommy Lee), but most of the vocalists were better this time than they were for the Rockstar : Inxs series.

Personally I think they have a hard time marketting women as a singer of a band. Not sure why. There are definitely good female singers out there, some making music for a long time with die hard fans, you're right though, in bands, not so many. I think they think women either have to be ditzy in an innocent sort of way while looking slutty to sell or they have to singing love songs. Actual rock bands, chicks that would be in them don't often fit any image they'd want to deal with marketting.
