Despite the circumstances of his little adventure and what had followed, Rock was heading along with an optimistic grin. He had a lead and now the time to pursue it, and nothing was going to stop him from doing just that. This was his chance to go home, to finally see his family again, and the only foreseen problem with the plan was it being too ( Read more... )

This might be Rock's lucky day, then. Because there was a flash of bronze in the air over that way as a firelizard swooped and flitted around a random cluster of couches and chairs. After a few more moments of zipping around and checking the area out, the bronze firelizard darted down to land on the back of one of the couches that was facing away from Rock.

Rock stopped mid step to watch before stepping closer. The bronze looked an awful lot like X's, but asking couldn't hurt. "Well, hello, Zanzibar was it?"

Zanzibar looked up at Rock approached, then chirped in greeting. But it wasn't Zanzibar that answered Rock's question.

"Yeah, his name's Zanzibar." X's voice spoke up from the other side of the couch.

"X? Hey!" That was all Rock needed to come the rest of the way and lean over the back of the couch. Of course he'd reach to see if Zanzibar wanted pettings as he did so. "Good to know I remembered."

"The press have already made a fuss about it, even without knowing Zanzibar is not actually a mech. There's already people wondering if I plan to market dragon mechs as pets. And the press has been wondering if I plan to build any other mechanoids, or even reploids for that matter." X shook his head slightly.

Before either of them could say anything more, Zanzibar reappeared in the air above them. Six minutes had passed and the PINpoint had brought him back. Zanzibar chirped in surprise, then warbled and darted down to land as X held out his arm.

Feeling the link re-establish was a huge relief to X. He smiled as the bronze landed on his arm.

He grinned amusedly at the troublesome press. It was better to laugh at them then bother with being frustrated all the time.

"Welcome back," Rock chirped happily, even if the bronze wouldn't understand the words. "So, did he find it? Are the coordinates on there? Let me see!" As much as he wanted to, he didn't make any grabby motions, but he couldn't halt himself from bouncing in his seat.

X grinned at Rock's enthusiasm. He shifted Zanzibar into his lap and gave him scritches as he worked to unfasten the teleporter from Zanzibar's harness.

"Did it pick up the coordinates alright?" X asked as he passed the teleporter back to Rock. He tilted his head to the side slightly. "Zanzibar says he went to the place that looked like the one you showed him." The little bronze chirped smugly as he relayed images of the memorial and the grounds around Rock's home to X.

Rock fiddled with it and grinned some more. "It's got coordinates on it all right! But only one way to see if they're the one's for home." He jumped up. "I'll be back in a bit." He pushed a button and...then frowned confusedly at it when nothing happened.

"Hey," X reached out to rest a hand on Rock's shoulder and gave a slight squeeze. "This isn't completely a dead end."

He wanted to give Rock some kind of reassurance. He could imagine how much Rock must miss his family. "You know they're there still. And, hey, Zanzibar can take messages to them, if you want."

The false smile faded and Rock couldn't help but to lean towards X. But then he had a mental 'Oh!' moment at the idea of sending messages home and blinked up at X. "I...really should let them know I'm okay." He started smiling again, this time for real. "And it'd be real nice to be able to contact them."

X shifted a little closer so that Rock could lean against him if he wanted to. He smiled down at Rock. "I'm sure Zanzibar wouldn't mind taking some messages back and forth now and then."

"You have my comm number, right?"

Even with the couch in the way, Rock managed to cling in an odd hug; trying to convey how much this meant to him without words.

"I do. And I can keep treats on hand for him too!"
