I've just signed up for a 2-day course on Beekeeping.

Bees are fuzzy, gentle creatures who buzz back and forth acting as pollinational proxy-genitalia for plants. They only sting if truly harrassed.

Bees need to be cherished and protected.

OK, if properly nurtured they also produce lots of Honey - which can then be used as a sugar-substitute ( Read more... )

I must do the same! Been meaning to for a while.

Maybe an army of bees would make a natural burglar deterrent too.

I'd suggest that if you want a burglar-deterrent it would be better to cultivate a Wasp Army.

A lot depends on climate. My dad used to keep bees in Kenya. There, you always approach hives with caution, protective clothing, smoke, and with darkness on your side. Even then, getting stung is pretty much inevitable...
