No - but I had a gainy Log-Periodic rotatable antenna that I pointed randomly North-West.

[OK, I was only putting 25 Watts into it but it proved a point].

Presumably they were all expecting to hear signals from something somewhat closer to isotropic. North-West might, I guess, have got some back scatter off aurorae if any were active?
