Karma Claus is coming to town

Dec 26, 2009 19:19

I got the opportunity to help a total stranger in need today. I stopped in Tarjay to see if they had any good day after bargains (they didn't), then I checked the movie section to see if the movie that Eewie's been wanting might be on sale yet (it's not ( Read more... )

That is awesome. I had something slightly like that happen to me last week at Aldi. The lady in line in front of me was paying cash. She was a whole 90 cents short. It was one of the odd times I actually had any cash on me. So I paid that for her, no big deal only 90 cents. I've been in that position many times myself. She was trying to figure out what to put back. Now she didn't have to. She looked about on the edge of tears of being grateful and she told me it's last minute shopping. Her sister called from Georgia and told her she was coming to town so buy some presents for her babies (the sister's), probably as a joke. This poor woman was rather beside herself. I pointed out at least she'll get to see her sister for the holiday and besides who don't like seeing babies, especially at Christmas. She at least started to see the humor in it and smiled. I felt really good about that one. Your's was much bigger.

Unfortunately, there's no garantee that this woman's not also a scam artist, going around from Aldi to Aldi, pretending to fall 90 cents short. Face it, it adds up, so...

Oh, wait, I guess it doesn't, once you figure in the price of gas...

Seriously, yours will come back at you someday in some way, too. And for the record, I've done the same, helping a stranger out with a buck or two at the register if I sensed that they were buying something they really needed and fell a little short. And whether it actually comes back at you or not, it does feel good.

Happy holidays, great to hear from you again!

Wow long time no ce (cyberly I suppose). Hope your holidays are going good for you and your's. I can usually tell which ones are the scammers like the crackheads coming to panhandle change in the parking lots and all. Especially the ones that decide they are homeless. Quite a few of them my one daughter knows and she cracks up when I tell her about the new ones. One time a couple came up to the window doing that while the gardener was in the store. They were trying to get bus change a few hours after the buses stoped running. Supposedly to get to the homeless shelter in Elgin. I didn't even have a penny on me. I had a 20 but seen through it. Funny thing is part of that 20 is what went to the 90 cents. I think that's funny.

You told me about this one over the phone, and if I'm not mistaken, you left out a key detail that's too ironic and funny not to post. Didn't you say that was RTF's change from the gas to fill your pig that you used to help this woman? If so, that means you used the money from one abusive creep to help the victim of another one. Hope he don't give you too much sh... um, slush or anything, but it seems to me that one should bump it even higher on the karma scale (the rules in that new reality show, Whose Karma Is It Anyways, maybe ( ... )
