First off, the other night, Oobles goes off to her job at the movie theatre. Then about halfway through her shift, she texts me to tell the the roof collapsed in one of the theatres, so I immediately texted her back, OMG, are you okay ( Read more... )

{{{{{Meggers}}}}} It's just never a dull moment over there, I swear. Thank goodness your daughter wasn't hurt, and your son was cooperative and agreeable about having to quit practicing. I know all too well that at that age, when they get enthusiastic about rock instruments, especially, they just want to keep practicing their little hearts out 24/7. Quite a switch from the band/orchestra instruments they wanted to play back in grade school, and swore they would practice at least an hour a day on. And I can't help wondering if they'd all end up better, more diligent players all the way around if they just made them wait to take up an instrument until they're in high school, then got all the folks they know from Kiss-FM and MTV, etc., to make videos with cellos, bassoons, etc. And figured out a way to make controllers for them in Guitar Hero, of course.

Oh, come on, you gotta admit, it's a thought. :-)

I honestly don't know where you come up with some of these ideas of yours. And that one's downright wierd, but I can't help thinking you may actually have a good point. I mean, face it, you were a rare breed of kid, but when you think about it, most band and orchestra kids don't practice anywhere near that much, but once they decide they want to be rockers, its a whole nother ballgame. They never want to quit, no matter how bad you or the neighbors or people in the next state may want to sleep.

Mega, glad to hear your daughter's okay, because that could of all to easy gone another uglier way, not to rattle your cage any more than you undoutedly already are.

To the noise ordinance, I have to say BLAH!!!!!! (loud enough to be heard from 50 feet away). I'm sure that's aimed at people cranking their car stereos, but I'm sure your cops would have had a field day with our old washing machine when it hit the spin cycle. It had a hairline crack in one of the support legs that took me several tries before I finally found it, and it would sound like elephant birds trapped inside of a bass drum or something. I ended up getting a new one, but sheesh. I don't see how none of our neighbors ever complained or anything ( ... )
