Question re: "The Nature of Alexander" (Renault)

Jan 22, 2010 20:24

Has anyone read M. Renault's "The Nature of Alexander"?

I was thinking about buying it, but I'd like to know whether it's worth a read. Can anyone help me with this?

Thank you :)

btw, if you can't get hold it it anywhere (I'm not sure if it's still in print) I have a second-hand copy I'd be more than willing to post to you. :))

Thank you, that's really nice of you, but it won't be necessary. I've been given a book token by my school for passing the second round of that Greek contest, so I don't need to pay for it myself. ;) So I'm just trying to decide which books to get. (Davidson's "The Greeks and Greek Love" is SO on the list. XD)

Good read! I've read almost everything I could get my hands on, about him.

Wasn't the trilogy great?!!!

These books are really good too:(There are others, of course, but these are my suggestions, aside from Mary Renault's books)

Alexander: The Virtues of War (2004) By Steven Pressfield
(also known as)The Virtues of War: A Novel of Alexander the Great By Steven Pressfield
Alexander the Great by Paul Cartledge
Alexander the Great by Robin Lane Fox

Enjoy the read!

Good, and her novels about him are brilliant too. (IMO The Persian Boy is by far the best).

I've already read her Alexander trilogy, but thank you for the tip, anyway.

I just finished reading it again! It is a wonderful book. You can find copies anywhere -- I found mine at a library book sale for a dime! Mary Renault is like Mari Sandoz, she does her homework thoroughly and presents it in a living, dramatic manner.
