I don't have one particular story about saying goodbye, just repeated saying goodbyes every few months. Because this is the price you pay for being a global nomad. Even if you are settled in a place for as long as a year, it is guaranteed that the friends will be coming and going, passing through your life in as little as a couple of months.
It's hard and only gets to be harder as time goes on. All I can say is that we are blessed to live in an era where geographical distance is no longer an impediment to staying friends with someone we truly cherish. For most of history, departure would have meant the end of all contact.
