i've been thinking about sci-fi

so i've not read a lot of sci-fi books, by which I specifically mean stuff on the nerdier end of the spectrum (i've read Stranger in a Strange Land and pretty much all of Vonnegut's stuff). and sometimes I get the sense that there's this secret geek world i'm missing out on, and I'd like to have at least a cursory knowledge of it. my friend tyler is a into what seem to be some pretty good sci-fi books.

his livejournal name is 'inwards', he's on my friend page. he'd be a good person to ask...

i think i remember him saying that 'nova' by samuel r. delany was really good.

i would say neuromancer but i think you have already read that. and this isn't a classic but check out cory doctorow's down and out in the magic kingdom, it's a really nerdy and pretty trippy sci fi book about disneyland in the future

i haven't read neuromancer actually! thanks. I might check out that down and out book, but cory doctorow's kinda a douche. but then, if being "kinda a douche" prevents me from reading an author's work, I might not end up reading that much sci-fi.
