I saw the signs for that protest around school, but they actually bugged me in the sense that obviously i get where you are coming from, but i'm not sure i agree with a protest to get the troops out of iraq. i mean, i don't think they ever should have been there in the first place but i was more or less under the impression that we had all basically agreed that regardless we've already made the fuck up and now we HAVE to stay for a while otherwise it'll get even worse. do you genuinely believe that the troops should pack up and come home tomorrow, or is more just the spirit of thing?

i totally agree, that now that we're in iraq, we do have a responsibility to stay there and clean up the mess we've made, and if anybody else were president i would agree that we should stay there until we've at least done our best to undo as much of the damage we've done as possible; however, with bush in charge, we're doing more damage by the hour, and the sooner we get out, the better. i do not believe that it is even possible to succeed in bringing "democracy" to iraq, which is just a cover-up for US imperialism. so yes, i agree with you in principle that we are obligated to stay and clean up our mess (or at least try, considering most of the damage we've done is completely irreversable), but bush does not know how to do this, and even if he did, probably would not do anything in the best interest of iraqis. what it comes down to is a war for oil, essentially, and that is not worth staying in iraq.
