It's Sugar!

It's Sugar is the name of a candy store next to the theatre where my husband works. (It's also truth in advertising, if you ask me.) He came home earlier in the week carrying a It's Sugar bag full of Peeps. I knew they were expanding their holiday reach beyond Easter. I didn't realize they were going for total Christmas domination

I've seen the It's Sugar store there. I haven't dared go inside it. I bet your sugar levels go up just by entering the store.

Why would New Year's peeps be pig-shaped??

As you no doubt already know, certain foods are considered good luck at New Year's. (Hoppin
john, bleah.) Pig is one of them. When Austrian families brought out their roasted sucklng pig, the dinner table was often decorated with toy and/or candy pigs (and 4-leaf clovers). The idea of candy pigs didn't take long to spread. You can get them in chocolate and marzipan, but the ones I was particularly thinking of are a hard (pink) peppermint. So that is why I thought of pink pig Peeps. Btw, I discovered last year that marzipan pigs aren't necessarily sweet. Ack!
