Okay, Hi! First Tutorial, hope it’s all good~ We will use Yukimura Seiichi, because he’s purty. Anywho;
base. I really don’t want to go into colouring manga, since there are oodles of tutorials floating around with numerous methods onto how it can be accomplished. I used multiply layers for base colour and simple normal layers blurred for amateur shading. It gets the job done :).
1. Duplicate the base and set to screen. I set my opacity to 50; but it really depends on the image.
2. Duplicate base again and drag to top. Desaturate it then set to softlight 100. he looks kinda pale :( arguably he’s siiiiick we’ll work on that though~
3. Huzzah! Texture time <3! Let’s take this pretty texture by
“twisted_fruitie”:
and set to multiply~ let’s get it off Yukimura’s face though, what I do is I select the white area of the base, then select inverse. I then go back to my multiply layer and press delete! Much faster than tedious erasing~
The icon is starting to get pretty, isn’t it ^_^?
4. Now it’s time for the inevitable~ blue exclusion layer! I used #003954 at 60% opacity, though there are many shades that can properly compliment your image =] a bit foggy, though he’s got some life back in his cheeks X3 ~
5. Let’s copy that desaturated layer and change the opacity to 50%. NOW~ every layer we place over the texture we don’t want that white space, it’ll wash all the colours out! So be sure to delete it (unless you like the light colours~ that’s okay too ^.^!)
6. Let’s set this pretty by somebody-I-don’t-know (feel free to inform me :D)
to screen~
7. Next take a gradient and set it too overlay at 50%. I used this:
as the blue will bring out his hair, and the red will make give the texture some more boldness, so you make a gradient that suits your image :D!
8. LET’S DO THAT AGAAAIN sorta. I took this this:
(which I’m pretty sure is a psp default gradient. My illegal copy ran away so I’m not positive 8D;;;;) and set it to overlay at 50% ~ now it’s a little more pink~
look at all those colours 8D! I like colours~
9. I took a pretty white bubbly texture:
and set it too screen, then erased the bubbles in the way of his face.
10. Hokay, let’s copy that thar base and drag ‘im allll the way to the top~ delete that white space and set to softlight. This way Yukimura’s pretty face is easier to see~
11. Just add desired text! I used Baskerville Old Face at 16 and a barely noticeable tiny text decoration.
And that’s it! *tosses confetti* wasn’t that fun~? I’d love to see what you guys came up with ^__^~ Now, I want to espeeeecially encourage playing around with stuff and not following the tutorial directly~ use different textures and opacities~ This icon was a Christmas gift, and I was generously allowed to make a tutorial out of it! So~ be creative ^_^~ hope you enjoyed it~ and feel free to ask questions if I didn’t explain anything clearly, I tend to do that XD;
