Little Lost Puppy

Yesterday I was driving to my first dog walk of the day... and I saw a tiny little Black and Tan dog running back and forth across Chandler Blvd. (a 4-lane street) dragging a half broken leash, so I stopped to try and catch her - but she was very skiddish. What is the time limit for a shelter to allow someone else to adopt a lost dog? I would go with that time frame. If it goes over, I would give the puppy to Steven. He clearly cares about her and will be a good puppy father.

I know this, I have a puppy. I would never let him get lost. If he did, I would be waiting by the phone AND post photos!

If we end up spending six more days with her... there's no way we're going to be able to give her up!

I get weepy just thinking about it now, but I'm trying to be responsible... and this small townhouse already has a dog and three cats (two of which are our roommate's). Sabretooth (my husband's cat) would never forgive us if we let Penny stay.

You will be able to in 6 days if Steven is still around. But if in 6 days, the owner shows up, then I can understand your torment. However, first give the owner the benefit of the doubt. Or perhaps hand Penny over to the "doggy authorities" ... because I am not sure if they have more rights and rules than you as a civilian has to keeping a lost dog. ( I don't know the terminology, so please excuse my ignornace)
