I dont really like Maya Angelou very much but i dont see any issue with this statement.
I think its trying to say that success is determined by your own perception. No one can say your successful if you yourself dont feel you are. Liking yourself, what you do and how you do it should be the guidelines to determining success on a personal level.
A personal level of success may not always coincide with the public perception of success.
why don't you like it? I think it makes a lot of sense. I think the only way to be really successful, is believing that you CAN be successful. I mean, even if you have support from God and friends and family, you still have to work at your goals to get where you want to be. Like take for example, me. I am desperately wanting an English degree for who knows what, but I am excited and I BELIEVE that I can get myself there, even though its going to be really hard work, I am willing to put myself through it because I know I want it badly enough and its the right path for me. But the only way I am going to get through and succeed is by believing I can do it, and like the way I do it. :)
I guess I like it...but I don't know. I suppose I wasn't sold on it, or it didn't completely rub me the right way at first glance. Maybe it is a quote that has to grow on me...You and Tyler have made some very interesting points though...so I don't know...but I am starting to wonder why I didn't like it so much...
Thanks but I can't take the credit. I friended this community 1day1thought and I really like having a quote a day to read. I usually pick the few quptes that I find to be the most striking or that are really interesting to post in my own journal.
At one point I mentioned where I got the quotes...but then I stopped doing that. Perhaps I should give credit where it is due every time I post a quote.
You should friend them so they appear on your friends page. It is just the one gal who posts one thought a day, and then usually lots of folks comment about whether they like or don't like it. I haven't seen a repeat yet! (Or maybe just one really good one...but I have had it on my friends page for a while). I even replied to someone's comment and made own of my own once, it was alot of fun.
I don't know...but you might enjoy having an interesting quote a day...
