So James said he loved me. and he was drunk or had been drinking
so i didnt pay to much attention to it
but he said it again today and he was mostly sober
and over the course of the night he said it a couple more times
till he noticed i wasnt saying it back and asked me how i felt about him
and all i could say was that i liked him a whole lot

Uh, no. Stop it. You're not wrong for not loving someone, and as nice as James is he's too young and too much of an addict for a serious relationship anyway (right?). If he wants to break up because you don't love him, fine. If you're both okay with staying together (I guess I missed the part where y'all became "together") that's also fine. As long as everyone's on the same page it's not that big a deal. But just because you don't love someone back? Does not make you a robot.
