Just when I thought they'd reached the nadir of stupidity...

There are days when I realise that my cynicism is somewhat eclipsed by that of the Universe. This is one of them.

US cannot account for 190,000 guns in Iraq: report

Military coup in America. You know it makes sense.

WHile the numbers look large, I do wonder how many were issued. Somewhere around 1% is what I honestly would expect to disappear between long-fingered soldiers and missed inventories. No, I haven't seen US soldiers in action, but I have seen (and been) non-US soldier(s) in training. The whole "this might be useful someday, it goes in my kit-bag" mentality becomes VERY strong after a month or two.

On one level, you can ALWAYS silence Americans by calling them unpatriotic Commie-or-terrorist lovers. "Support our troops" means placing them in harm's way with no resources, and no one dares to be tagged as an enemy of our brave soldiers.

On another level, as Shaw said, we're a society that thinks itself twice as well off when its lapdogs have four puppies a couple. As long as the Dow-Jones is above 10,000, a lot of people think that they're well off, and to hell with everyone else.

Ahem.

Fuck. The. Troops.

Seriously. Who in their right mind invades a sovereign nation and cheerfully starts murdering the populace because a puppet in a suit told them to? Wearing camo and carrying a bullet-thrower doesn't absolve people of responsibility. The excuse 'Everyone else was doing it' holds very little water, too.

The correct reponse to such orders is a collective "Stick it in your ear, SIR." Possibly followed by politely returning the heavy ordinance to the person who came up with those orders. Personally. The velocity of the return speed to be at the wielder's discretion.

But no, I do not Support The Troops. In fact, when it comes to this particular invasion, I heartily support the local guerilla fighters who are making life hard for the foreign invaders/occupiers in general and Chimpy McFlightSuit in particular.

Oh, good. Because it's so easy to lose AK-47s, they slip between the sofa cushions all the time...
