My sister in law made a small quilt for our first daughter, from old dresses and other pieces of clothing that her family had outgrown or worn out. Your sister-in-law's quilt is a perfect example of that connectedness in a family I was talking about. I have seen some fantastic quilts made with old jeans, shirts and pieces of blanket. They tell such wonderful stories. I bet there are some champion quilters in the Great Southern. If I come down for the show this year, D. and I will have to take a look.
