that you're doing well and beginning to adjust, Debby. People are people, regardless of the setting, and you're certainly intelligent and funny enough to handle them.
You must do two things for me while you're there: 1) Go to a world cup game and watch people try to fit a round ball into a squared goal. 2)Eat copious amounts of German pastries. Your sisters tales of baked goods heaven, corroborated by my German grandmothers treats, have very nearly pushed me to buy a ticket over there myself. If I show up one day, bloated and broke, on your door step, just give me a glass of water and don't act too surprised.
I trust you'll have a fine time in Deutschland, Debby, and I wish you well.

The first 2 weeks are always rough, but take heart that both your sis and Alanna survived the motherland (or is that Russia?!).
I would like to add 2 things to Nate's list:
1- buy a David Hasselhoff CD
2- To eat not just pastries, but hazelnut chocolate (which is in abundance)
Virginia waits for your return (bad teeth and all)!
Hugs
Merissa
