Interesting point of view. I did feel like the book was too long and too many characters were tossed in - for example, did we really need another missing Targaryen with delusions of grandeur? - but I was still thrilled to get another glimpse into these characters, so I wasn't overly upset about the lengthy plot.
At this point, I really hope Tyrion is going to have some big role in bringing about the new regime, or else the better part of this book has been pointless. That said, I'm not sure that he and Dany could be pals. She strikes me as a typical girl who is attracted by the underdog provided the underdog is cute and cuddly (see Grey Worm, Missandei). Tyrion is too sharp-tongued and not handsome enough for her. Also, he's a Lannister.
Jon, if he's not dead - and I tend to agree with you - might be a better ally.
Good insight on Dany. What I'v been hearing in fandom is that Tyrion's worth to her is in his dragon knowledge. That coupled with him spinning the murder of Tywin, might make him valuable to her. Although in terms of attraction, I don't really see it. However, knowing Martin, it could just as easily go there. He seems incapable of writing a male/female that don't think of shagging, which for example, in the case of Penny and Tyrion I felt it was beyond forced. I'll disagree with you about the sharp-tongue, I think she'd like it considering how fond she is of Dario of whateverhisfacepurplegoateeguy. I just think she values loyalty over all, how exactly Tyrion will prove his loyalty to her and that he deserves a dragon is up in the air. It might not happen--I mean Bran is more likely with his warging. But the chunks with Tyrion talking about how crazy he was about dragons make me suspicious. Like I said I keep going back and forth
