My paid account expired, and since I'm here so rarely these days I couldn't justify the expense, even though the amount might be affordable as such. I also removed some users on my reading list that behaved inconsiderately and in one case also demanded an unreasonable amount of money for something I wasn't aware was all that expensive to begin with

The blurry photo I'm using as icon is taken with a 2.0 megapixel mobile phone camera. Mmm, walnuts. Great sustenance for corvids and humans. ;-) I've eaten a palmful nuts (walnuts from my parents' garden and/or bought hazelnuts and almonds) almost every day since January 1st. How's the birdwatching?

It's just that you wrote (Is it you???) in your email, and in my state of sleep deprivation I didn't think that it was my email address you wasn't sure belonged to the meko00 you knew, but rather that I was one of the women on screen.
Hope November has been treating you well. :-)

I mean, I've never had very many users on my reading/friends list, partly because I want it to be manageable, since I don't read my list all that frequently. When I have time to skim it (or read it more slowly and thoroughly), I try to comment (at least) briefly on posts that I find relevant to my interests, but not just with a more or less meaningless "*hugs*", unless I've played at "Calvin and Hobbes" with them, which I did with someone who removed me in a "spring cleaning" post a few years back.

I'm not a writer of fiction, but I'm a translator (albeit still an unpaid one) and a writer of nonfiction and essays. I too can put myself in the shoes of others, and I'd wager we're not alone in that. However, it feels far too often for my taste that the Internet as a whole, and LJ in particular, is bad for the interpersonal skills of most people.
I know that publicity is... and so forth. It's just annoying.
(But see, if the subject being written about is sufficiently grave, a *hugs*, and always just that reply, might be seen as belittling, especially if the first poster always tried to track down interesting links for the hugger. Yes, I'm the poster in question, and the hugger was an American who used to be on my friendslist.)
