Major sympathy and virtual hugs! My sister is lactose intolerant and takes a lactase enzyme with her ice cream (or cheesecake). Isn't there something or a probiotic you could take to help you digest things? My niece had to go gluten free due to dysentery. For the first year she couldn't even walk into a Starbucks without getting sick. But after a year on a super restrictive diet (where it was fairly impossible to eat out) she's gotten less reactive. She no longer has to worry about cross contamination and can eat out if she's careful. So once you figure things out, there is hope that you won't be on the Diet of Doom forever. You also might try discussing things with Twisted Hilarity. She's had horrible food allergies as well. She might have some helpful hints. I hope you get some relief soon. Hugs!

Thats terrible. As someone who's been lactose intolerant since elementary school when it was still a rare diagnosis, I regret to inform you it gets worse as you age which is probably part of your problem. There are artificial enzymes you can take, but I wouldn't try them till you know your limits on everything else food wise. And probably after consulting with a doctor. Because if you are that bad chances are, like me, the typical one pill dose is not enough. Plus side, you don't really have to worry about overdosing if you take a couple extra pills.

That said, lactose is specifically a cow milk thing so goat products are often okay. Some cheeses like parmesean also don't contain lactose due to the way they are processed. Almond milk makes a decent cooking alternative for normal milk provided you can't find lactose free milk. And if you get tofu made ice cream in your part of the world it's pretty good.
