Book Review: Heat Wave by Richard Castle

Meh.

In the first chapter, possibly even just the first few pages, 'Richard Castle' used the word 'just' about 20 times.  I kid you not.  And instead of reading the story, I kept counting 'just's.

It was a mediocre attempt to invoke the fun and games of the show in characters that are blantantly ripped off from the tv characters.  I think if an ( Read more... )

Thanks for posting the review. That's a little disappointing. I definitely agree it would be a blast to get Fillion to autograph the book as Castle, but it would be more fun if it was a better book.

Makes me curious who they got to ghostwrite it.

I think it's Stephen J. Cannell. They had a whole section on 'spend a day with a mystery writer' on the DVD extras. And they call him the 'godfather' of the show b/c of a show he was in a couple decades ago.

Do you watch the series?

I do! I started watching it because "Mal" is in it, and I enjoy it. Good banter and repartee between the characters. Puns as good as CSI.

It's taken a while for the other cops' characters to develop, but they're getting there.

I'll probably read the book. But maybe I'll just check it out of the library or get it used.

I gave the audio version to my mother for Christmas. I don't think she watches the show...I kinda want her to. I'm eagerly awaiting her review...

I plan on reading it because I am a fan of the show, but it is good to know I shouldn't have high expectations for it.

Yeah, it was sad... but the first disappointment came when the book was so thin. I did get some enjoyment out of it, but nothing like the show. I hope you enjoy it!

While I'm sure there are exceptions, I avoid fan fiction of the 'based on the TV show, but our main concern was cashing in quickly rather than getting someone to produce a good book' kind like the plague.

One, particularly awful, piece put me off for life. I won't name names, but years later, I later discovered it had been written in less than three weeks - a fact of which the author seemed most proud. For the life of me I can't think why.

I'm the same but my sister got it for Christmas so I borrowed it. Curious, you know? Glad I didn't buy it... though, like I said, if I could get to a signing, I would. :)
